In a joint Press Release Mr. Haroon Basheer, (Chairman Pakistan Parkinson’s Society- PPS) and Professor Shaukat Mehmood, (Principal, Allama Iqbal Medical College and Jinnah Hospital Lahore) announced that an understanding had been reached by which both institutions would jointly work towards creating awareness about Parkinson’s Disease (PD) in general as well as providing exposure to GP’s, Family Physicians, Nurses and Therapists about Parkinson’s Disease and its management.
As an initial step towards this objective, the first seminar is being held at the Allama Iqbal Medical College Auditorium, Lahore on 12th December 2012. There will be two sessions held that day and will be addressed by specialist and Parkinson patient’s
Session 1 will be from 10:00 to 12.00 am and is targeted towards Doctors and Medical Staff.
Session 2 will start at 12:00 pm and is geared towards Patients and Care Givers. Session 2 will be covering areas of how to manage the Disease, highlight some tips and tricks and breaking myths regarding Parkinson’s. The seminar will close after an open forum Q&A’s
Admission to both sessions is free.
Parkinson’s disease is a progressive movement disorder which usually develops after the age of 60. The overall prevalence of PD in the world is estimated to be approximately 6.5 million.
The PPS in a non-religious, non-political and not for profit organization registeredt under the Societies Act of 1860. The aim of the PPS is to ease the life of people affected by the Disease through propagating best global practices and Cultivating Hope”.
